We are looking for anyone with a gardening interest to join our small team. We have a small wildflower garden that needs care and attention from basic maintenance duties to installing new plants. We also have a number of plant containers, from the small to the extraordinarily big that we like to keep in season.
You will find the team friendly and well-run by our volunteer head gardener. You need to have initiative and a good understanding of gardening. We will supply the tools you supply the power!
If you are interested please contact us for a registration form.
Volunteer JobSpot - Family Activity Enablers
The museum is recruiting volunteers to work with visitors, especially families, as stewards. We are looking for friendly outgoing people who can be available at weekends and during school holidays.
The operation of our magnificent collection
of steam pumping engines is central to the museum and we are looking to recruit
suitable people to train as rotative engine drivers.
We are looking for people who enjoy
painting & decorating and also for plumbers, plasterers, bricklayers and
gardeners! The team usually meets on a Tuesday or Wednesday, but you are also
welcome on Saturdays. The gardening team meet on Thursdays.
A thriving Thursday gang undertake most of our routine engine maintenance. They deal with everything from repacking
glands, manufacturing new safety railings to major work such as overhauling the
massive suction pump on the 90 inch engine (the cover alone weighed two tons!).
If you just like polishing brass and cleaning interesting bits of engine, then
there is plenty of that to do too and you will be very welcome.
